I had an unfortunate circumstance that put me in the hospital. Filled with apprehension, I was admitted to 6 south. Once there and settled, I had the pleasure to meet my nurse, a Sarah Montague. Sarah was more than my nurse; she was a companion, my security blanket. I had been scheduled for hip surgery and no one was communicating with me. I mentioned this to Sarah and she promptly made a phone call and had a nice doctor come up and talk to me. After this talk/explanation, Sarah interjected and asked if he could order a pain medication to help with the fractured bone. Boy was I hurting. He did and she gave it to me. The compassion this one lady had cannot be measured. In all of my years, no one has touched my heart the way she did. This is just one small example of the endless task she performed. It was not her assessment (even though very good), it was not her communication with the doctors (again, she was very good at this), but it was her understanding, her compassion, her ability to reach out and touch me, a total stranger, and make me feel as if I were in the arms/care of someone who was capable, professional, and most of all, compassionate! I know you hear these things all of the time, but being retired from the medical field, I understand the value of sharing these experiences. Oh yes, I should also mention that she spent over 30 minutes with me during my assessment making sure she understood all of my concerns. Not once, did I feel hurried. She really listened. What a blessing you all are for having her on staff!!!
