I nominate Sandy for the DAISY award because of her actions in taking care of a patient today.

The patient was an 11 day old newborn who presented with signs and symptoms of sepsis, i.e. respiratory failure with some cardiac dysfunction. Clinically, Sandy felt for femoral pulses, found them to be weak along with other signs of cardiac dysfunction and as a result an ECHO was performed in the ED. Upon review of the ECHO results the newborn was transferred to the Cardio Vascular ICU at Phoenix Children's Hospital.

Despite the high acuity of the situation, Sandy showed superior compassion while caring for this newborn and the parents by taking the extra time to talk with them and answer all their questions. She provided comfort to them during this stressful time with their very sick child.

This is only one example of how Sandy provides not only superior clinical care but also an ability to demonstrate compassion and understanding during an extremely stressful situation.
