Sandy Lanser is one of those veteran nurses who everyone wants to work with and be around. She is our PACU coordinator and someone that I would want to take care of me or my family following surgery. No matter how big or small the surgery, Sandy makes her patient's comfort and well being her number one priority. She knows just what combinations of medications work for certain procedures and patients. When I transport my patients from the operating room to PACU, I know they will receive excellent care if she is their nurse.

Sandy is a certified nurse of Ambulatory Perianesthesia (CAPA). She is very knowledgable and keeps up to date on the most recent standards of care for the recovery room. In fact, as I am writing this nomination letter, she is attending ASPEN (American Society of Peri-Anesthesia Nurses) in Chicago. Sandy organizes the PACU so that other nurses can find things and feel comfortable recovering patients after hours if they are called in. She is a great communicator and that is important when caring for patients after surgery. She has given different inservices, including an excellent presentation on malignant hyperthermia a few months ago to keep staff up to date on PACU emergencies.

Sandy always has a smile on her face and a calm demeanor no matter how hectic things can be. During emergency situations she reacts calmly and knows exactly what to do for her patients. She puts her co-workers at ease when things seem to be hectic.

Sandy is on our Sunshine (People) committee in surgery. They help organize staff events which help to boost staff morale. She is a top notch nurse and a worthy candidate for the DAISY Award. I feel honored to work with such a wonderful nurse and individual!
