Sally Middleton, RN of ICU is being honored with a DAISY Award based on nomination submitted from one of her colleagues, who wrote:

I had a patient who was C2 fracture, brain injury, paralyzed and comatose status post MI and fall from Bike. The patient failed SBT and SAT while on ventilator. The family decided to make the patient comfort care. The patient was extubated and died shortly afterward. I became extremely busy with another patient who was agitated and going into respiratory distress. So while I took care of that situation. Sally stepped up for me and gave the patient's family comfort. She was compassionate and caring. She gave positive feedback to the family letting them know that what they did for their loved one was the right thing to do. And, she was an advocate for the patient. Sally insisted that the coroner be contacted. Then Sally with tenderness, cleaned the patient and removed all lines. She made sure the patient was cleaned and looked as best as possible for the family to view. Sally was an amazing team player that day and if it wasn't for her I would never have been able to take proper care of the other patient that was decompensating.
