Rodney consistently advocates for patients by pursing orders for PICC lines, saving patients from multiple lab draws and IV starts. Rodney also has sacrificed much of his personal time to cover staffing shortages in the department, while also providing quality training for myself. Rodney continuously emits a professional atmosphere while maintaining a compassionate demeanor with everyone he comes in contact with. I appreciate all that Rodney does and he is truly an asset to MHP.

One of Rodney’s co-workers broke her leg and was on FMLA for at least 2 months include major holidays. Rodney made sure that the Mercy campus had an IV team present each and every day. He worked many extra shifts in order to ensure coverage. Our patients were better served because of Rodney’s dedication.

There was a patient, while being transferred to the ICU, his PICC line was inadvertently pulled out. Rodney was on his way out of the building. It was his wife’s birthday and he had plans. Doing the right thing for this patient, Rodney stayed and replaced his PICC line (which usually takes about 1 hour). This patient was better served because of Rodney’s dedication.

Rodney assists in orienting our new IV team nurses. Part of the IV team’s responsibility is placing PICC lines. New associates to the IV team must place multiple PICC lines with the preceptor prior to being allowed to do it independently. The thing with PICC lines is that we never known when someone will need one. Some days we have many and some days we have none. The new IV team member can still perform the job, just not the PICCs. When a PICC is ordered on a new associates shift, the associate will call Rodney and let him know. He then comes in (on his day off) in order to expedite the new associates learning. Our patients are better served as more of them can get PICC lines because of Rodney’s dedication.

Everything that Rodney does is professional and yet personal. Patients request Rodney because of his expertise and pleasant demeanor. He is a true team player and always will go out of his way to assist a patient or a staff member.
