Robin embodies every quality this award represents. In my opinion she takes these qualities to a higher level.
I have been a street medic in metro Atlanta for 18years. It has been said we are our own worse patients. I was a non-compliant type II diabetic who had to visit the ER with a badly infected foot that I had been trying to treat for over a week. I am very good at denial but realized it was time to get it fixed. I was admitted to the medical floor and the nurse came in and said she had insulin for me. That was an overwhelming state to be in and I flatly refused. As I was laying in my bed, being mad and grumpy, in walked this nurse announcing she was the diabetic educator - great, I thought, more scolding!
However, Robin was not that way. She sat down and we started chatting. She asked me about my job, about my illness and diabetes. She approached me as a fellow professional and like the waves of a high tide against a sandcastle, she wore me down in the best way I could imagine. We discussed statistics, the real outcomes and options. She told me she didn't expect me to turn around overnight; it was a marathon, not a sprint.
The care I received from Robin was far and away above any care I received during my stay. She is patient and driven to help a patient get better. She exudes passion and is exceptional at what she does.
The level of care I received and Robin's effect on my health and mindset are commendable.
