Randy Vedros, a staff nurse in the PACU at CHKD, delivers excellent service to patients and their families and establishes a special professional connection with them through trust and emotional support. He was nominated for the DAISY Award by a mother who recognized these qualities in the care he provided for her child.
Her son had a Tonsillectomy & Adenoidectomy performed. When he was coming out of anesthesia, the patient was combative and crying. The mom stated: “Randy comforted him and assured me that this was a normal postoperative behavior. He made me feel like we were the only patient in the PACU. He explained everything to me and was calm and comforting throughout the stay. As a fellow RN, I sincerely appreciate Randy’s professionalism, compassion and overall bedside manner when dealing with my son.”
Randy’s manager confirms that this is the way he cares for all of his patients. She states: “He is a very calm person and he speaks to all of his patients as if they were his own children. In our department, he takes every task very seriously. He is truly a team player and has the best interest of the department in mind.”
These testimonials reflect our professional practice model of relationship-based care with the patient and family at its core. Randy’s family-centered approach to care makes a significant difference in the life of patients and families everyday!
