Story 1.

Prudence heads the Day Surgery Unit at Zale Lipshy. I would like to nominate her for the DAISY award for a variety of reasons. As the head of the DSU, she is constantly revising and executing new policies to promote efficiency and patient care improvement. I am medical director for the DSU and Prudence always executes any requests to promote a excellent workflow in the unit. With her position she interacts with a variety of healthcare providers including: Anesthesiologists, Surgeons, fellow nurses (OR, PACU, DSU), surgical and anesthesia technicians, and administrative personal and she does so with in a collegial and respectful fashion. She has been the integral component in making the DSU so an effective and functional entity. I give her the highest recommendation for this award. Thank you.

Story 2.

Prudence is constantly working to improve our patient care processes and communication as we care for our surgical patients and their families. I have had several of our patients and families comment to me that they knew that she really cared about them as individuals because she takes the time to listen. These same people have also said that they felt that this was truly remarkable in our fast-paced work environment. Prudence is always protecting confidentiality and she is an amazing patient advocate. Prudence treats patients, families, all staff members and physicians with patience and respect and she is an excellent communicator. I am amazed at how well she is able to muti-task and keep our unit so well-organized and functioning efficiently. She is able to anticipate needs, formulate a plan and communicate it to all team members. Prudence is always encouraging staff to become more involved in UBC, Magnet, TAPAN and ASPAN and she sets an excellent example in these areas. Prudence also serves as a mentor as staff prepares to take CAPA and CPAN certification exams and she was instrumental in the pre-certification review classes offered at UT Southwestern in the Fall of 2012. Prudence is a wonderful, compassionate clinical nurse at the bedside and the most effective manager with whom I have ever had the pleasure of working.
