The past few months have been some of the most difficult times my immediate family and I have ever experienced. Within weeks of being diagnosed with stage four cancer, my wife died. The last month and one half of her life was spent in the ICU Department with very professional, dedicated, caring, nurses and medical personnel. One nurse, Pennie Lucas, stood out from all the rest. In the latest stages of my wife's life, Pennie provided excellent care and much needed emotional strength for me. During these times, Pennie was positive, passionate, and willing to answer any and all questions my family and I had. I was so pleased with the extra efforts she displayed to control her medical emergencies which seemed to develop hourly.

Pennie went beyond what would be normally expected of a good nurse and showed that she truly cared for my wife and me personally as well as professionally. Pennie would stroke my wife's arms and head, talk to her both when she was conscious and when she was not, comb her hair when it was falling out, and brought her hand made headbands. Pennie even came by to check on her progress on her day off. Pennie is a special person, a very skillful nurse and I am pleased to have known her. From my family and me, I want to thank her so very much for being there for us.
