Paul was nominated for extra care and generosity shown to a patient during a traumatic time.
The patient was vacationing with friends and family in Yosemite and had come to our ER to be treated for a severely infected foot wound. As Paul began IV antibiotic treatments, he went out of his way to get to know the patient.
"This put me at great ease during a very traumatic time," the patient wrote in a nomination letter.
Needing to know the proposed treatment so that he could arrange for his family's overnight accommodations, Paul went out of his way to gather medical information to inform the patient about the treatment plan.
When it seemed likely that the patient would have to be admitted, he was worried that his family would have to drive back to Yosemite in the dark alone. Without hesitation, Paul offered overnight accommodations at his own home.
Paul continued to check on the patient throughout the night and even made it a point to visit him after his shift ended.
"My experience that evening was traumatic, but Paul's constant generosity helped reduce my anxiety tremendously."
