My father had a fall and broke 3 ribs and punctured a lung. He had been in the hospital in Atlanta and they sent him to a nursing home for "rehab". When I went to Atlanta to check on my father after the hospital sent him to the nursing home, I found him close to death. He had horrible care in the nursing home and had given up. I knew in that moment, I had to bring him to Lexington and here to SJE. He was seen in the ER and was admitted to 3rd floor telemetry. All the staff was great to my dad and I couldn't be happier with his care. But one nurse stood out to my dad and he talks about her to this day.
Michelle Gooslin took care of my dad when he was on Tele over a 2 ½ week period of time. She was kind and compassionate, and showed my dad the true heart of a nurse. She cared about him as a person. She wasn't afraid to hold his hand when he cried and listened when he needed someone's ear. She treated him exactly the way a daughter would want her father treated. She helped him gain back his dignity and will to live. She helped him to see he could have his life back. Michelle's care of him didn't stop there.
You see, my dad was admitted last month for pneumonia and was on the 4th floor and Michelle contacted me to see if she could go visit him. It wasn't a good time then but my dad came back last week and I told Michelle she could go visit him, and that she did! It made his day! He was so happy to see her. He is a very sick man with complicated medical issues, but to Michelle he is a sweet little old guy who deserves to be cared for in a special way. Not because he is my dad, but because Michelle embodies what all nurses need, which is a God given loving soul. She has made a difference in my dad's life and for that I am forever grateful.
