Michael Nichols received a few nominations which highlight the many ways he exemplifies the kind of nurse that both patients and families recognize as an outstanding role model. Both nominations were written in detail outlining the many ways Michael goes above and beyond.

One nomination describes the ways he was able to make our patient more comfortable and above all, laugh while she was waiting the better part of 12 hours for a bed.

Another nomination was presented in more detail. Here are excerpts from this nomination:

"Michael Nichols is an amazing nurse and compassionate professional who assisted my father during an emergency room visit. My father has Alzheimers and as a result of infections, he was extremely disoriented and in need of medical care. His anxiety can be easily triggered and his medical condition caused it to be extremely elevated during this visit.

Thanks to Michael's soothing approach, understanding of dementia and supportive manner, our difficult, allday experience was so much better. Michael helped intervene when a CAT Scan caused my father to flair up and get scared, by personally calming him down.

When the hours passed by, Michael was right there to help our family with updates, constantly checking on my father using a "Midas Touch". My family has had several people suffer from the decline associated with this disease. In the past 30 years our family has never before seen the kind of professionalism, compassion, understanding, amazing bedside manner and medical talent as what we witnessed with Michael Nichols.

It takes a special person to do this difficult but important work and Michael Nichols is that special person."
