We received good care from all of the nurses that cared for my dad during his stay (but Meredith and Mariamma exemplified your Service Excellence standards of Reverence, Integrity, Compassion and Excellence. They both showed compassion and a quiet gentleness that made our whole family feel at ease. When we came to the unit and saw their names assigned to the board we were relieved.
My brother called them the "A" team, and he was correct. They both took time to understand our concerns and accurately evaluate my dad's medical condition, ensuring that he was comfortable and that we understood what they were doing. They both spoke in calm, low voices, not shouting his name or speaking in volume that would disturb him while he or other family members were sleeping.
Meredith was kind enough to sit in with us when we spoke with the hospice representatives and it helped us to understand what they were saying in reference to my dad's current condition. She exemplified leadership qualities that were on par with a Charge Nurse.
While I was not frequently there at night because I was with my mother, my brother spoke at length about the amount of time that Mariamma spent with them at night, ensuring that dad was not in pain and that they understood what was happening. She took time after her shift was over, while walking out the door, to speak with my mom and me about how my dad did during the night.
We are very grateful.
