We would like to nominate Melencia for the DAISY award. She is a caring, compassionate nurse, treating patients, families and staff with kindness and respect in all that she does. She is highly qualified, trained and has great communication skills. Moreover, she is a great listener and strives to meet the needs and expectations of every patient and their families, every physician and care provider in the department. We have had many patients tell us what a great nurse she is and how well she does the job. She is kind, patient and very passionate about his/her work and patient care. She is alert and active in every area of care we offer. She is empathetic and kind to both patients and surrounding co-workers. She strives to create a team centered environment and is always willing to drop what she is doing to lend a helping hand no matter what the situation is. She is cheerful and her presence makes our patients relaxed and comfortable. She always has a smile on her face and will take time for whoever she comes in contact with. Her smile is contagious and she is always there to lend a helping hand. In summary, this is the quintessential nurse and words on paper simply cannot capture her knowledge, clinical skills, compassion and professionalism. We are very lucky to call her our co-worker and our patients and their families are happy to call her their nurse. Her knowledge and dedication to the nursing profession and her compassion to patients and their families is such that she is loved by all patients, respected by all co-workers and valued by her superiors. This nurse sets very high standards for others at the hospital.
