Melanie comes to work every day happy and she is generous with her time. She will go out of her way to help all her co-worker's. She makes the time to do the little extra's so that we all have an easier day. Her main job is triage, but she always helps the nurse's in the back. She will send patients to get a urine sample, get them in a gown, place them on the monitor and see to their comfort by getting them blankets, pillows, chairs for the family and she always does it with kind soft spoken words. She always places the call light in reach for safety. She is always aware of the call lights and will answer any light at any time. She will go and get supplies and give to the RN caring for the patient to save steps. The patients only have good things to say about her.

Melanie cares about everyone, her co-workers, patients and their families. It is so nice to be the next person to care for the patient, because you know she has started out their experience in a such a caring and professional manner. Patients and families comfort, needs, safety and concerns have been addressed and it shows in the faces of the family and in their mannerisms when they communicate with us.

Everyone is greeted with kindness, caring and ultimate respect when Melanie is at the "front door" at the Illini Campus of Genesis. She has her heart wide open and practices with such great concern and passion, that I feel she should be awarded the DAISY Award. She is the ultimate Genesis spokesperson for compassionate quality care and she shows it through her everyday actions no matter how big or small they are.
