My grandmother was admitted and passed away 5 days later. We had excellent care our entire stay, but Matt stood out above the crowd. His sweet nature to my grandma made her feel so special and taken care of. He included our entire family (there were a lot of us) in grandma's care and plans for the day. Once we decided to transition grandma to comfort care, he was so sweet in continuing to talk to grandma in his caring sweet nature to make sure she was comfortable. Whenever the family had a question, he was able to reach the doctors and collaborate meetings with the family and doctors. There was at least one family member staying with grandma always, as at age 94, she had never been in the hospital.
Matt made sure we were always comfortable, ordering comfort food trays, providing blankets, more chairs for the room, and just always checking in on all of us no matter if we were in the family lounge or in her room. On our last day with Matt, my uncle nicknamed him the "other brother" when talking to my grandma (she was comfortably resting with medications). Matt shared a personal story of how he had just suddenly lost his grandfather and would be attending his funeral later that week. He said he was treating us and grandma as he would want his family and grandparent to be cared for. This showed so much in his compassionate, caring nature. I would like him to be noticed and recognized for his warmhearted, tender, caring job he did. Methodist is extremely lucky to have Matt. We will be ever grateful for our wonderful care grandma received. Thank you.
