MaryAnne joined Providence Medical Center in 2008 as a new graduate having attained her BSN from Ft. Hays University in May of that year. In just three short years she has become a role model for Excellence both in her clinical knowledge and expertise and her compassionate and caring service to patients. In addition to being a preceptor, MaryAnne often serves in the role of charge nurse and is an active member of the hospital’s Nursing Retention and Recruitment Committee.

As a preceptor MaryAnne is sought out by name by students completing their clinical rotations and new RN hires but an even higher testament to her extraordinary nursing are the frequent requests from patients and their families that MaryAnne be assigned to their care. Her recent nomination, by a patient, perhaps best sums up her remarkable characteristics:

When MaryAnne was assigned to my care I NEVER waited for anything! MaryAnne was always running off to fetch whatever I needed or wanted even though, last time I checked, I am not a Malaysian prince. When I was finally allowed some ‘real’ food MaryAnne was honestly more excited about it than I was. ‘Meatloaf!’ she exclaimed and, though she could have been pretending, made me feel despite all my tubes and bags and whatnot, that I was a normal person.

Her smile, her knowledge and skill, and above all, her unwavering cheerfulness, made my newest horrors feel infinitely less horrible. I’m sure that to MaryAnne this is a just a normal part of everyday; it’s who she is. To me, it made all the difference.
