Mary is a 30 plus year employee at Children’s Colorado, working with her each day helps us all be better Nurses’! Not only does Mary demonstrate superb patient care skills, she also fulfills our hospital mission of coordinated care by teaching BLS classes house wide.

Mary has developed many tools to aid in the care of our many perioperative patients that come through our units daily. She has developed a “recipe” book that acts as our guide to complete the admission and discharge process for each of our Surgical departments, keeping us all up to date with Surgeon’s practices and patient needs. This booklet has been a great time saver and helps us develop a more organized plan of care for each of our patients.

Mary epitomizes the excellent clinical Nurse by demonstrating empathy and kindness to both her patients and their families. Her years of experience give her the competency and confidence to volunteer for the most complicated assignment in her own humble, efficient manner. Her peers love her positive, upbeat attitude that transcends through the most difficult situations; it’s been heard many times “Mary is here, it will be a great day!”

Mary utilizes her superb interpersonal skills while filling the team leader role; she is always encouraging to new staff. She is always available to take on any new project, the latest being the bar code project. She teaches in a very non-threatening manner making even the most seasoned Nurses feel comfortable taking on a new project or learning experience.

Mary was one of the original admit Nurse’s for the original Admit One area, she helped develop the process, the working area and the tools used to prepare our patient’s for surgery, many of these tools are still used today.
