Marilyn helps anyone who needs help. It doesn't matter if you are on the Blue Team or the Gold Team, she is there for you. She will answer questions and give you the answers you need. Two years ago, a friend of mine was going through hard times. A 20-year war veteran, he was 43 years old.He had gone from a hardworking, compassionate, independent man to someone whose hands tremor so badly he couldn't tie his own shoes and had night terrors so vivid he was often hoarse the next morning. His wife and two children went back to Japan because they couldn't take the emotional roller coaster ride. We got the call one day from his father who said that they found him after being homeless for 6 months and was trying to get him help and into a rehabilitation center, but they were getting the run around at the VA. They couldn't get in to see anyone day after day. When I heard this, I talked to Marilyn. She didn't say, "he doesn't belong to us," she took the time, did the research, and gave us the contact number and contact person.
Fast forward to today, andhe and his service dog, Dioji (pronounced D-O-G) have a new life at a new GS position, doing what he did while in the military. He worked as a Navy Meteorology and Oceanography (METOC) Officer. He has a great support system. His children and wife visited this summer; they are all working on their relationships. This is one person, one story that touched many lives.Nobody knows all that Marilyn does behind the scenes. Marilyn getsvery involved with her patients to make sure they have what they need to stay healthy and be safe. She will go to any lengths to make sure that her patients' needs are met. We are so thankful to have her embedded Med Home Port. She epitomizes great team work and has good communication skills with different departments, patients, and family members. She is so deserving of the DAISY Award.
