Marianne learned that an unstable cardiac patient was coming to the Surgical Care Services department to be prepared for an unplanned surgery. As an open heart nurse, Marianne knew that this would be a stressful situation for both her fellow associates, as well as for the family, so she offered to come to the department to assist. She made sure the appropriate labs were drawn and the correct consent forms were signed. She helped the nurses in many ways, however she also was able to talk with the patient and the family about what to expect, and shared with them, some of her knowledge about the procedure to help decrease their fears.
