Maral Mesrobian, RN, was nominated for the DAISY Award by a patient for her life saving skills in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit at Huntington Memorial Hospital.
Because of coronary artery disease (single by-pass in 1993 & triple by-pass in 1999), I have been participating in Huntington Hospital’s cardiac rehabilitation program for the past 15 years.
On May 25, 2001, while exercising on the bicycle, I collapsed and went into full cardiac arrest. Immediately, Maral gave me mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, and then used the equipment to revive me before being transferred to ER.
Maral is to be commended for her quick efficient action, and for still being able to maintain her composure while instructing the other shocked patients to “clear the room”.
Without her life saving skills I would not be here to nominate Maral Mesrobian as an extraordinary nurse who continues to give her attention and professional care to all the Phase 11 and Phase 111 patients who exercise weekly at Huntington.
M is for MARAL the RN at Rehab Class,
A is for the ACTION she pursued so very fast;
R is for her RESUSCITATION skills applied during my cardiac arrest;
A is for her ABILITIES, knowing what to do when my heart was in dire distress;
L is for my LIFE she did save so I could exercise for another day.
