Maeve has been a nurse in our cardiac cath lab for many years. During this time, she has become what I describe as the "silent force" in the lab. She is largely responsible for the day to day smooth functioning of the lab. In addition to acting as charge nurse, assisting in cases and doing data collection, Maeve is also a compassionate nurse who knows how to work with patients and their families in stressful situations.

I remember one particularly hectic day that illustrates Maeve's dedication to her work. She had been at the cath lab all day and was called in on an emergency case at 2 AM. The patient undergoing the procedure was quite anxious, as was his family. Maeve spent hours applying her clinical skill in assisting in the procedure while comforting the patient and his family. Following the case, Maeve went home only to return a few hours later to assist in more scheduled cases. That day, she made it a point to visit the patient on the unit to see how he was coming along. Indeed, her dedication far exceeds that of anybody I know.

Maeve is steadfast patient advocate. She is constantly researching advances in equipment and procedures to bring the best care possible to the patients at SAN FRANCISCO GENERAL HOSPITAL. In addition, she assists in creating a safe environment for patients by reviewing and updating policies.

Maeve is a true colleague, leader and friend. It is always a pleasure to work with her, knowing that I have a strong, skillful and compassionate nurse at my side.
