Lydia establishes special connections with patients and families by gaining their trust, making them feel as though they belong and filling them with hope. She helps to do this by sitting with the patient and families to explain the patient's condition. She will always introduce herself to the patient when entering the room. She gives them assurance by contacting case management for help with home medications. She comforts by asking if they would like to pray and prays with them. She looks for resources for the patient through case management and pharmacy. She is dedicated to caring for her patients. One instance of her going above and beyond was when a patient was being discharged, she worked tirelessly with pharmacy and case management to make sure the patient would have the medications needed for home use.

Not only does she take special care of her patients, but she also collaborates with team members to ensure a positive patient experience by helping other nurses. She is the first to respond to call lights and is there helping the patient to the bathroom, getting water, or food for patients who aren't hers. To help her patients feel more comfortable, she will go with the off going shift to do introductions. She always helps with emergency situations, stepping up to help with codes. She is port certified and uses her expertise to help access ports for other nurses.

Lydia generates enthusiasm and positive energy while maintaining a caring attitude in all clinical situations by helping with activities sponsored by the floor. She has been the coordinator of backpacks for kids for 5 years. She gets donations and buys enough supplies for 10 or more backpacks! She helped coordinate the Adopt a family and bought presents and had gift cards for the family. She even goes out of her way to cook for the unit, making spectacular egg-rolls and flan for everyone! Lydia’s positive attitude and helpful spirit are a joy to be around, and she's always more than ready to help a patient or staff member.
