... A 3 month old baby girl was brought into the ER with generalized weakness, weak cry, etc. The ER staff had a difficult time getting an IV in the baby and determining what was wrong. Laura Hall, our RN from Pediatrics came to assist and was not only able to get the IV started but suspected the baby had infant botulism. She took care of the baby girl while she was in the ER and assisted in getting her transferred to the appropriate level of care. The baby was subsequently transferred to Cottage Hospital where the diagnosis was confirmed. The baby was hospitalized for about 2 weeks and has since been discharged home where she is doing well. The family is extremely grateful to Laura and credit her with saving their baby's life. Laura's expertise and skill went beyond expectations.

...

The baby's grandparents wrote: Our family wants to thank Lora for her amazing nursing skills that saved the life of my dear little granddaughter who is only 3 months old. She came in dehydrated and without Laura's skilled hands the IV may not have been placed as quickly. Laura assessed her quickly as likely having infant botulism and facilitated us taking her to Cottage PICU. She calmed our anxieties, provided clear and comprehensible information and was the perfect person for this situation. Thank you, Laura, from our hearts.
