Lisa has been a nurse on Ortho/Trauma for 35+ years and consistently demonstrates the skilled and compassionate care that makes her a deserving recipient of the DAISY Award.
There are two recent examples that truly demonstrate Lisa's compassion. Both involved women who were survivors of assault. One of the women had been assaulted and knew she needed to seek help to prevent her daughter from being assaulted in their home. Lisa allowed her to tell her story, listened to her, and later prayed with her as she tried to recover emotionally, physically and mentally from the trauma inflicted.
Another woman was a survivor of domestic violence and was in the hospital for weeks recovering from her disfiguring injuries requiring extensive dressing changes. Lisa provided her with compassionate care; listening to her concerns about what her future would hold and treating her with kindness during the painful dressing changes.
Lisa advocates for her patients with the doctors, care management, pharmacy, therapy and others as needed. In addition, Lisa is a great mentor to our new nurses. With her years of experience, she has a wealth of knowledge that cannot be duplicated. She provides a 'motherly touch' that new nurses need - she is affectionately known as 'Mother Lisa' on the unit. She has a contagious laugh that puts a smile on everyone's face. You know it will be a good day when you are working with Lisa!
