Lisa is a support to all. Her patients, their families, and of course her peers. Lisa is a committed professional who advocates for her patients and collaborates with the entire multidisciplinary team. The best description of this nurse comes in the form of a letter from the family of one of her patients. This letter describes her approach to the care of her patients and the impact she has on those she touches.
"I spent a few days at Condell. Not as a patient but as a visitor of a patient that happened to be a family member. This email is in regards to one of your staff members. She was wonderful while overlooking and providing exceptional care for my niece who suffered a heart attack at a very young age of 30.
Coming from a medical background, I am almost ashamed to say I have never taken the time out to send a post, email, letter or any other communication giving thanks, but I felt this one time, it would be a sin if I didn't.
Lisa was so professional, courteous, attentive and most of all, clean (when handling contagious things). I thought I was imagining things. This caused me to pay even more attention to her. I cannot explain to one how much this meant to myself and others.
Lisa, Thank you again for:
1. Showing you cared
2. Having sympathy and empathy
3. Being concerned about everyone.
Oh yes, I saw what you did: you were the respiratory, psychologist, dietitian, and much more. Thanks for keeping that big smile on your face when some of my family members were not so kind.
You're not my associate nor my friend, only a person I ran across while she was working and caring for others, but I can guarantee you this, if there is any team I could pick, it will most definitely be your team.
Words really can't explain my appreciation for you, actions speak louder than words. So please accept this action of this letter as an action of gratitude. I had hope for my niece's well-being after meeting Lisa."
This letter provides insight into the nursing practice of Lisa and her compassion, collaboration and the support she demonstrates every day. This award is about changing lives one patient at a time and Lisa does that. She impacts patients not only as the nurse at the bedside, but as the preceptor/coach, mentor, and as a leader for our CRRT program with one of her peers. We are proud to have her on our ICU team and this honor is well deserved.
