Mercy Medical Center nurse Linda Starr was awarded the 6th DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is presented quarterly in collaboration with The American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) and is part of the DAISY Foundation's program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform everyday. Locally, the award is co-sponsored by Hy-Vee Floral and Sweet Heart Bakery.

Starr has been a nurse at Mercy’s Dialysis unit since 1992, six months after opening of the unit. Prior to working at dialysis Starr worked on the Progressive Care Unit. For the last several years, Starr has been responsible for the bone disease management within the dialysis unit. Most recently Linda is working on a quality improvement project focused on improving the phosphorus levels of dialysis patients. Her nominator wrote of her, “ I am always relieved when I find Linda on duty……her grace and compassion is comforting.”

Starr received a certificate commending her for being an Extraordinary Nurse and stating “In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people." Starr also received a Daisy Pin, a bouquet of daisies donated by Hy-Vee Floral and a sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa. Mercy’s Hospice Service was honored with cinnamon rolls donated by Sweetheart Bakery.
