We have a patient on 8th floor who has been with us for 39 days due to a stroke and other comorbidities. This 45 year old man is uninsured and unfortunately his family has basically abandoned him at our hospital with no intentions of taking him in. Initially Mr. P. was unable to follow simple commands, to ambulate, communicate or even perform activities of daily living. During his time here he has had PT and OT but not consistently.

Today, Linda Montpetit, Case Manager for the 8th floor, was witnessed in his room working with him on simple commands, getting him to toss a ball, etc. and he followed her instructions perfectly! She has taken a special interest in doing whatever she can to get him to his optimal level of functioning and has even advocated on his behalf to our therapists to encourage them to continue working with him because she believes that he is capable of making more progress. The time she has invested with Mr. P. goes above and beyond what is required in her role as a case manager.

A social worker brought this to my attention because she was in awe when she witnessed Linda in the patient's room playing catch with him and encouraging him to pass a ball back and forth as well as doing simple exercises.
