Critical care nurses often provide care during the most difficult times that patients and their loved ones can encounter. While such situations are very challenging, it presents nurses with an opportunity to lend support, kindness and compassion. Lauren consistently seeks out opportunities to not only provide exceptional patient care, but to truly make a difference in the lives of our patients.

Recently, Lauren cared for a terminally ill patient whose passing was imminent. The patient expressed his wish to see his dog one last time. The patient said that his dog was "the love of his life." Others might consider the request impossible, but not Lauren. She worked with the patient's family, security, and the nursing supervisor to arrange one last visit with his beloved pet. She arranged for a conference room outside of the ICU and transported the patient to the visit. Lauren truly impacted the patient and family, and made an extremely difficult situation a bit easier to bear.

This is only one example of why Lauren deserves to win the DAISY Award. She truly exemplifies the mission of this hospital and it is inspirational to work alongside such an outstanding nurse.
