With all surgeries there is a level of anxiety that we all feel prior to the actual procedure. I was having shoulder surgery, when my blood pressure was 1000/320 or so it seemed. That’s when Lauren knew there might be some anxiety issues. She sat down with me and stated just exactly what the pre-surgery procedure was going to be and what it entailed. She had that natural calming effect.

Watching her work showed me that she had the knowledge and the respect of her peers and co-workers. Not only that, she had the compassion for me as a patient that came natural for her. That great smile made everything she did add just that little bit extra to show that everything is going to be alright.

Prior to surgery she was present when the anesthesiologist inserted the nerve block tube that was going to help minimize the pain after surgery. She wasn’t even close to being done as my nurse. After surgery I had certain medications that I was to take at home. She said here is my cell phone number and if anything should arise don’t hesitate to call me. As the hours and days went on the medications that I was on didn’t agree with me I did take the opportunity to call Lauren’s cell phone and with her expertise and professionalism changed some of the criteria that was originally expected. Immediately the issues I had were minimized to a great extent. In fact it was unbelievable.

She would call me twice a day to make sure I was comfortable in what was going on. When the time came to pull out the tube from the nerve block a few days later she was right there making sure everything was being done in the right order. This is what I call going above and beyond the call of duty. She was there for me, The Patient. That shows me that she is dedicated and enjoys her job, and most of all, is committed to her patients.

I’d like to finish by telling you that I’m speaking from the heart because she showed me from the heart. She deserves The DAISY Award because she demonstrates every aspect of what the criteria of this award represents and more. Thank you, Lauren, for everything.
