I have had breast cancer twice. From all of my treatments, I continue to have infections from a wound that will not heal. My doctor told me that I must be admitted for my IV antibiotics. My only son is autistic. We had planned to be together on his birthday. I was so sad to leave him. It is just he and I. I thought about leaving after I got to my room. I was there only a few minutes, when a nurse with a warm smile walked in. She told me her name. Lauren recognized that I was sad. I told her about my fight with breast cancer and about my special needs son. She never looked away from my eyes. This meant so much to me. Lauren asked what she could do to help me. She found a vein when the IV nurse could not find one and provided me with extra pillows. She always had time for me. I was happy when I was well enough to go home, but Lauren was off that day. I heard a knock at the door. It was my angel! Lauren was there to tell me goodbye. She gave me a big hug.
