I would like to recognize Laura for the exceptional care she gave to one of our long term patients in Infant Care. This little girl was sooo loved by Laura. As Laura grew to know this patient she began bonding with her. The infant’s mother lived far from Memphis and found it very difficult to visit often. She also had other small children at home to take care of, so Laura took this patient under her wing. Everyday I would come into the unit Sally would have new outfit on, her hair combed, and even her nails done. I would find out Laura was her nurse for the day and had bought her these new things. As Sally turned 1 year old, and never been home Laura coordinated her special princess birthday party. She had a princess sign made for her room, a cake ordered from the cafeteria, balloons, invited guests, and Sally of course was dressed in her princess outfit with her tiara. As the time grew near for this patient to go home, Laura created a Wish List and had her mom write down the things Sally would need for this Big Day. Things listed were crib, car seat, stroller, etc…. Laura ordered her a crib and mattress and had it delivered to her home ready for her on the day of discharge. She also took up money for the stroller and car seat and gave it to the mom. On the day of discharge, it was sad to see her go, but Laura was happy to be her nurse that day. She said goodbye, and still keeps in touch. The family visits often when bringing Sally for follow-up appointments.

This only names a few things she did for this patient and her family. Laura is compassionate with all her patients and shows each one this special attention.
