I have known Laura since we worked in NSI together. There she was excellent at teaching and advocating for her patients and their families. The ICU was such a technical and scary place for patients and families to find themselves. Laura did her best to orient families to all of that technology and helped them by being a source of security in the midst of uncertainty. Laura was very empathetic with her patients and cried with families when they did. She was not only caring to patients and families, she was a patient preceptor as well and worked as a team with her co-workers.

In the Clinical Neurosciences Center, Laura is the first contact for most patients and families. She reviews referrals and schedules appointments. She helps patients to be connected to the specialist that they need.

Laura continues her kindness to patients and families in the CNC. She works with a provider and his set of patients and often fills in for other nurses with their patients. In addition, she works with the medical assistants for breaks and other needs to keep the patient flow going. It requires flexibility to help with multiple providers and to help with the medical assistants. Laura works to be flexible and she always graciously accepts the variety of assignments she is given.

Laura has been a role model for the nursing profession through her care of patients, families, students and co-workers. But in addition, Laura has continued to work on her knowledge base from which she practices. Laura obtained her CNRN while working in NSI and continues to maintain it now. Along with her fellow RNs she has been studying and presenting on various specialty topics in neurology. She continually works to be knowledgeable and available for great patient care.
