I want to compliment one of your excellent nurses, Kristy Urbano for going above and beyond her duties as an OPI nurse. During R's typical infusion treatment, she noticed that there was a bit of swelling around his port access site when she was prepping him to leave at 5 PM.

After a few calls to our geneticist, she finally got a hold of him and he wanted to immediately get R into radiology to examine his port. Kristy again got a hold of the right people in the new CHOC wing and gave us a personal escort to registration, as it was in the new wing, and we had to walk outside through the parking lot to get there.

Upon arriving at registration, they really didn't know what to do with us. They sent us to multiple locations, rooms and registration sites. This process took almost an hour, during which the radiologist who was waiting for us since 5 o'clock had left. We were told we needed to reschedule for the morning and were almost sent home. Kristy insisted that this was an emergency request by our geneticist and we needed to be seen tonight. The staff got a hold of their on-call radiologist; within 15 minutes we were in radiology. I have no doubt that without her passion and perseverance it would have meant another appointment for R, more missed school and more time off work for us, his parents. She went to great lengths to help us get R what he needed at the time when he needed it most despite all of the obstacles and complications that evening.

We have always received top-quality care at your OPI center and Kristy's extended help that night was a prime example of this. We are really fortunate to have your nursing staff love and care for R the way they do and cannot be more grateful to know and work with all of them. Please give Kristy the recognition she deserves for her outstanding level quality of care.
