I am writing this letter on behalf of myself and my colleagues who worked with me during this incident. We would like to nominate our colleague, Kochurani Mathew for a DAISY award.

This incident happened in OR. Myself and two other colleagues were doing a call shift for the weekend and were called on Friday morning for an emergency procedure. Among the three of us, we knew we would need a person with expertise in this field to help us to ensure patient safety and provision of best care. We called upon Kochurani Mathew at home to come and help us and she immediately said yes.

The following reasons are why I nominate her for this award:

1. In OR we only have our rest days on the weekends, so it was her rest day. I knew she would be tired because she is one of the nurses who most of the time works very late during the week.

2. She knew that if she came to help us she might not get paid overtime or receive time back, and so she did it voluntarily.

3. She immediately said "Yes", and what impressed me the most was her comment: "I'm helping you guys, but first I'm helping the patient to ensure that the patient gets the best care". She had a caring attitude and wanted to give the best to the patient.

4. Without her help we would have encountered many problems with this procedure, but everything went smoothly and only because of her willingness to help.

We recommend her strongly for the award. She had a caring attitude and wanted only the best care for the patient. The story might seem simple, but she made a decision to sacrifice her time to help a patient without any reward.
