Kim and I received a patient as a direct admission from an outside hospital. While I signed the forms to accept the patient, Kim was already at the bedside. We completed our evaluation and it was immediately clear our patient was septic. She calmly reported the vital signs and entered in verbal orders to expedite her care. When the patient's 1L NS bolus arrived, she manually administered the bolus about 10cc at a time. She comforted the patient and provided a calming environment for all involved. She updated family immediately and kept me informed as our adjustments in care were made. She provided ICU level of care without any complaint. The patient was lucky to have her as a nurse.
