A couple of weeks ago we were called to OB for a baby that was coding. While we worked alongside the anesthesiologist and a couple of other nurses trying desperately to get this tiny baby to breathe again, we heard a voice behind us. Kim was so kindly telling the father, who looked in complete shock, everything we were doing to save his son. Every step we took, from drawing labs to placing a breathing tube, she put into delicate words so he could understand. She guided the father to the nursery behind his son, who was fighting for his life, and found him a chair and a drink. She explained that he needed to stay strong; that his son would be transferring to the University while mom had to stay here. Kim never left his side.
In difficult times like these, we have seen Kim sit with families and hold their hands. She has talked them through difficult times and then come to the staff to make sure they were okay too. Kim is the kind of nurse we hope we can be; compassionate beyond measure.
