... Kim provided home health nursing services to my husband following his heart bypass surgery. Kim possesses a special ability to come into a patient's home, bond with the family, earn their confidence and to provide exceptional nursing services. Kim made an enormous difference in his recovery and our sense of well being after he was discharged. On two separate occasions, she quickly assessed that he was experiencing problems. She immediately contacted his surgeon and she waited with us for the surgeon's office to call back with instructions. I seriously do not know what we would have done if Kim had not been there to take charge of those situations. Each time she visited, she kindly and gently offered suggestions that would make him more comfortable and speed his recuperation. She reinforced his need to use the breathing device, walk, get plenty of rest, stay hydrated and she always assessed his emotional health. She always explained his medications and what to expect during his recovery. On each visit she acknowledged the progress he was making and that inspired him to do better. At some point during her visit, she would sit on the floor and play with our dogs. She called them "the boys". While this doesn't necessarily fall into the category of nursing, it does speak volumes about why she is so incredible. Nursing is Kim's calling. It is who she is. Kim visited us nine times during the first three weeks after he was discharged. We give Kim the credit for helping us to feel safe during those early days at home and for his recuperation. To put it simply -- she was wonderful!

Kim Ramsey made her visits to us during that below zero cold spell, when we had so much snow. We live outside of town and our drive way isn't that easy to navigate. Even though our neighbor plowed, getting in and out just wasn't that easy. We even suggested one time that Kim not come. She wouldn't hear of it. And, she never once gave us the impression that it had been a challenge. Then, when the Christmas holidays rolled around, she came on Christmas Eve day. That was one of the days when she had to call his surgeon. I know she knew how worried we were so she gave us her cell phone number and told us to call her if we got worried before she was scheduled to come see us again. She didn't have to do that.

Coming home from the hospital after such major surgery was scary, especially for me. I can tell you, because of her professionalism and her warmth, we trusted Kim implicitly.
