When I was notified at home that my husband was non-responsive, I was deeply concerned. I could hear in Kim’s voice that she was genuinely worried. I told her that he speaks Polish 80% of the time since his dementia has progressed. Kim ordered an interpreter there and then. I was but a voice on the phone, and it would have been easy to marginalize such statements not given face to face. When I got to the hospital an interpreter was already present in my husband’s room. Many other small yet major acts of compassion came naturally from Kim.
