An ambulatory patient nominated Kelsey for her compassion and kindness during a very difficult time for the patient. This patient had a c-section at an outside hospital but came to CMC with her newborn daughter who required hospitalization in our Special Care Nursery. The patient required wound care twice a day for her c-section and became a patient of the CMC Wound Care Center. Normally the mother's treatment would mean that she would need to travel to an appointment twice a day, but during the time the patient's daughter was hospitalized, Kelsey made the extra effort to come to the Special Care Nursery to see the patient so she would not have to leave her baby's side. The patient stated that Kelsey 'worked to change the course of her treatment so that she healed more quickly' and even gave the patient her cell phone number on a day off so that the patient could call with any questions. Kelsey advocated for the patient and truly exemplified what the DAISY Award is all about; going above and beyond for the patient.
