Kelsey Malone was taking care of a couple that were both admitted to the hospital and were in rooms next to each other. Unfortunately, the husband was in dire shape and was suffering from severe complications. He ultimately was placed on comfort care while here. His wife was doing a lot better, with pneumonia at the time. Kelsey comes into this story regarding their daughter who would stay with her parents that were both in the hospital.
Their daughter was under a lot of stress with the whole ordeal of her parents being sick. Upon having a conversation with the daughter, she was too worried to leave her father's side because of his condition. The daughter really needed to pick up some personal belongings for her father from his previous facility, and was too worried to leave them, in fear that he would pass or need her by his side. Once she told Kelsey this, Kelsey realized that this facility was near her hometown and offered to pick up the things she needed after her shift. The daughter agreed and after Kelsey's long 12 hours shift she drove all the way to the facility and picked up the belongings and brought them back on her own time.
The daughter expressed her utmost appreciation to me during Nurse Leader Rounding. Kelsey was compassionate, showed empathy, developed trust, and is admirable in her actions. You can tell Kelsey loves her nursing profession and her actions were done with complete selflessness.
