I wanted to commend your staff for the compassionate care they provided to my mother and my family last month on CTU3. She was on your unit for less than 24 hours but I truly felt that every person who touched her treated her with the respect, dignity and empathy that a person who has lived for 91 years deserves on their last day on earth.
But most of all, I would like to honor Kelly. Unfortunately, even though my mom was quite ill, the time for her to pass came very suddenly and unexpectedly. Kelly took charge of the situation and made sure my mom, my sister and I were all able to have the best possible experience as she passed away. She did this in a manner that would help Abby (her nurse that day) learn and gain confidence while making sure that all was done for my mom's and our comfort. She was then kind and patient afterward, caring for my mom and allowing us the time we needed with her. She even found someone from the Emergency Department who was able to remove my mom's rings so we could take them home with us, which meant a lot. Kelly was able to gain our trust and create a relationship just in the brief time she spent with us, but the mentoring I saw of Abby by Kelly will also be a legacy. As leaders, we can only hope we are growing other nurses to provide the highest quality care. I also think as nurses we often are most rewarded by the positive outcomes as our patients get better, but I hope Kelly will know that her knowledge and experience along with her true compassion and care made an impact on us that will remain with us always. You have an awesome team!
