Katrina spends a wonderful amount of time and dedication with her patients. One example of this is how she took the time out of her day to help and care for a stroke patient. I watched in awe as Katrina spent more than an hour at the beginning of her shift to care for this patient. She took the time to talk to her, to comfort her, to make sure she understood what was happening to her, and what cares were being provided. Each night Katrina had this patient, she would wash the patient's face, wipe her eyes, give oral care, and provide all the things that sometimes go unnoticed or missed during the hustle of everyday workflow. She made sure this patient was comfortable every time she checked on her.
Every 45 minutes to an hour, Katrina was in this patient's room, repositioning her with other staff members, and making sure she was clean and dry. She showered this patient with compassion, and you could see in the patient's eyes how much it was appreciated every time you walked into the room. This is the type of care that Katrina provides to all ofher patients. She is an advocate for her patients when they don't have a voice for themselves. She makes sure that good quality of care is provided. Oncology is definitely lucky to have a nurse like her with the amount of passion and compassion that Katrina has for nursing and her patients.
