I travel around this country from state to state as an Interim Clinical Director or Chief Nursing Officer. And I always look for things that are fair and consistent. TMF has a lot of both, but the one thing I have noticed in the unit are those nurses that provide excellent care and customer service. In my experience often times you don’t get both. However, for the months that I have been here it goes without fail that at least once a week some family member stops in my office to tell me of the awesome care Katie Lawrence provided to their loved one.

Katie is a very unassuming nurse that goes about her business taking care of her patients. She is not loud, flashy, or controlling, but at the end of her shift you know her job has been done to the best of her ability. Families stop to tell me that she took the time to answer every one of their questions. That she made them feel like a person and not just a room number. That they were blessed when she came in the room and introduced herself as their nurse.

One family stopped by my office to ask me for a favor, not knowing what they needed I quickly agreed to assist any way I could. The daughter of the patient said I know Katie is not my dad's nurse today, but we are getting ready to have him discontinued from the ventilator, and I was just wondering if you could ask Katie if she could give me a hug. She went on to say that when Katie gives her a hug it seems to make the day go better. I presented her request to Katie and without hesitation; Katie came out and hugged her. The patient was extubated and died within 30 minutes of the ventilator being removed. But the family was able to handle the situation of God's will and Katie's love.

I think Katie is one of the extraordinary nurses placed on this earth as a comfort to his people. I salute you Katie and thank you for having a huge heart, gentle spirit and caring hands to help those in need. Keep up the good work and know that you have found your calling. May God continue to bless you as you bless his people. I am proud our paths have crossed.
