I came in knowing I wanted a natural birth if possible. Katie was kind, compassionate, and tried to help make that happen. She kept the lights low, used a soft, calm, reassuring voice, and tried to keep the room quiet. When the back labor pain became too much she used her expertise and experience to explain my options for pain management. I was able to remain relatively comfortable and still do labor as natural as I'd want. After my water was broken, labor didn't progress as fast as the doctor had thought, so she left to check on another patient. Within a very short time I felt the urge to push. Katie quickly got the help she needed with the staff assist button and was able to call for the doctor. Due to her experience and expertise I had a great labor and delivery experience. The day after my daughter was born Katie wasn't our nurse but stopped to check in on us and make sure we were doing well. She helped answer some questions and did some patient teaching. Her love and passion show through in the care that she gives! She goes above and beyond. She is very deserving of this award!
