Kathy is the charge nurse in the Denville Operating Room and is a great multi-tasker who runs the surgical schedule seamlessly. Kathy positively influences the quality and delivery of patient care each and every day. Calm, caring and the ultimate patient advocate, Kathy makes patients feel comfortable and helps put their minds at ease.
Recently a Saint Clare's nurse found herself bringing her husband, rather unexpectedly, in for surgery. Even as a nurse employed at the hospital, she was anxious and distressed about her husband's illness and all of the possible outcomes. In addition to being nervous about her husband's illness, this nurse was unsure about the procedure for requesting a specific anesthesiologist. Her angst increased, wanting her preference but assuming it was too late.
When coming to the OR, this nurse and her husband were greeted by Kathy in the holding area. Kathy treated them like family, despite never having met them before. When Kathy was talking with them, she sensed that something was bothering the patient's wife and soon uncovered they wanted a specific anesthesiologist. Without skipping a beat, Kathy said she would take care of the situation. Kathy took responsibility, stating a request for a particular anesthesiologist had been made but not processed in a timely manner.
This simple act gave this couple peace of mind and feelings of caring and comfort, which allowed them to focus on healing and recovery.
