While I was hospitalized Kathy was my nurse for 4 of the 5 days. When I was admitted I was unresponsive. Even though I could not respond, I was aware of everything Kathy said and did for me. She was in my room for long periods of time calling my name, rubbing my arm trying to get me to wake up. Those few moments when I briefly opened my eyes or made an utterance she encouraged me. She was very worried about me and it came through. She called me sunshine and said "I need to see your eyes". When I did wake up, her kindness and compassion continued for the rest of my stay. Kathy made an awful situation a much better experience.
Kathy Minnis was concerned for my well-being based on my injuries. St. Mary's staff does hourly rounding. There were numerous times that I know of that Kathy either came into the room or stood in the doorway to check on me between the hourly rounding. Kathy took time to talk to me about whatever was on my mind. She explained what my injuries were and why things were the way they were. She always asked if I understood what the doctor said to me.
In my opinion Kathy is an A+ nurse and she exemplifies what it means to be a caring, compassionate nurse and she shows respect and joy in her job. Kathy is what it means to be an extraordinary nurse.
