Every time we reminisce about our birth experience, we smile and think of Kathy. Kathy, our nightshift L & D nurse is the living definition of what it means to be a nurse. Her calmness, compassion, empathy and knowledge were exactly what we needed. She was constantly explaining things, teaching us what she was seeing, offering comfort techniques to try and communicating with the team. It is obvious that Kathy loves what she does. She treated us like family and even stopped by after her shift to meet our bundle of joy and to hear the rest of our delivery story.
We were so blessed to have Kathy as our nurse it was like having my grandma, who was also a nurse, there in the room taking care of us. (If you knew my grandma, and how much we adore her you know how much of a compliment this is!) Kathy showed professionalism, collaborating with the resident and softly suggesting the next steps we should take in a way that made us feel confident and supported. During her shift, she rarely left our side and somehow found the time to not only care for me, but for my husband and sister as well. Her extraordinary care will forever be a part of our birth story, care that make us smile to this day!
Kathy's commitment to excellence and extraordinary compassionate care make her more than deserving of a DAISY Award! I, too, am a nurse and Kathy's outstanding care is what I strive to emulate each and every shift!
