Kathryn (Katy) had the overnight shift as nurse to my wife and new born baby. One of the main reasons we loved working with Katy is that she was so easy to connect with. We believe she was the perfect nurse to help us through those amazing, but tough first few days. She was excellent at making sure that we knew she was there to help, however she could. She was great at answering our questions, offering breastfeeding tips, showing me how to swaddle, and how to soothe an overly excited baby. She also made sure that the new mom and dad were comfortable, and that we had what we needed to take care of ourselves.
Katy's time and attention was high quality. She was patient with our questions and we never felt rushed. From the moment she took over helping us, she made sure we felt at home. She did this by the way she entered the room and the questions she asked. Our now family of three, was treated with great respect in terms of our space, needs, and attention.
Some of the most useful things we learned from Katy were about different strategies to try when a baby isn't latching properly or just doesn't seem to be taking to the mother's breast. We also learned swaddling techniques (scary for me to learn because of the risk if done improperly) and a few other soothing techniques to help calm babies.
