From the start I was immediately impressed by Ms. Kempka's professionalism and knowledge of her craft. She introduced herself and then explained all of the drugs involved in my chemo, their uses, and possible side effects. She fielded my questions and explained things in layman's terms. Katie infused her teaching with examples from real-world experiences so that I might better understand what she was teaching me by connecting it to my own life experiences. Having been a grade school and college teacher throughout my career, I know a good teacher when I see one, and Katie is just such a teacher.

With her warm speaking style, Katie makes herself accessible to her patients which encourages a more reticent patient to be comfortable to ask questions about their care and specifics of the uses and possible side-effects of the drugs.

Lastly, Katie combines her naturally compassionate nature and exemplary service with an infectious (no pun intended) sense of humor that makes someone who may be new to cancer care and the nervousness that accompanies it, immediately at ease.

Katie's knowledge of all aspects of her job and the clinical skill which she so naturally demonstrates when explaining things to a patient before she is even asked places her at the top of her profession. Katie is a huge asset to Froedtert Hospital and the nursing/teaching profession specifically.
